Voter Registration:

Remember you must re-register to vote if you have just moved to another county, and you must update your address if you have moved within Orange County! (from http://www.co.orange.nc.us/elect/registration.asp):

Registration Deadlines

Registration application forms must be either postmarked or received by the Board of Elections no later than 25 days before the election in which you wish to vote.

Registration Requirements

To vote in Orange County, you must be:

bulletA U.S. Citizen
bulletA Resident of North Carolina and this county for 30 days before the election
bulletAt least 18 years old on or before the next general election
bulletNot registered and not voting in any other county or state
bulletIf convicted of a felony, your rights of citizenship have been restored
bulletIf you move out of your precinct, but remain within Orange County, you should notify the board office in writing of your new address.

Changing Party Affiliation

If you wish to change your party affiliation, you must complete either a Voter Registration Application Form (downloaded from address above) or complete the reverse side of a Voter Verification Card that has been mailed to you, and return it to the Board of Elections. All changes must be either postmarked or received in the Board of Election's office at least 25 days before the election. 

Registration Process

After a voter application/update has been processed, a voter verification card will be mailed to the voter indicating their correct precinct and polling place location

 

ID:

◦A North Carolina driver’s license with current address
◦A utility bill with name and current address
     -A telephone or mobile phone bill
     -An electric or gas bill
     -A cable television bill
     -A water or sewage bill
◦A document with name and current address from a local, state, or U.S. government agency, such as:
     -A passport
     -A government-issued photo ID
     -U.S. military ID
     -A license to hunt, fish, own a gun, etc.
     -A property or other tax bill
     -Automotive or vehicle registration
     -Certified documentation of naturalization
     -A public housing or Social Service Agency document
     -A check, invoice, or letter from a government agency
     -A birth certificate
◦A student photo ID along with a document from the school showing the student’s name and current address
◦A paycheck or paycheck stub from an employer or a W-2 statement
◦A bank statement or bank-issued credit card statement

If you cannot supply an acceptable form of identification for Proof-of-Residence, your registration application cannot be fully processed until the required information is provided.

Registered voters may also update their address and change vital information in an existing registration record at the One Stop Site, but they are not allowed to change their party affiliation during the One Stop Voting period that precedes a partisan primary.
